Depression Counseling

What is Depression?

Depression is clinically described as a mood disorder that is categorized by persistent sadness and loss of interest. While everyone experiences depression differently, there are common signs that may indicate depression. We often find that depression is only part of the problem. Individuals with depression are also commonly dealing with additional complex overlapping Issues.

Depression vs Sadness

Sadness is a normal human emotion that everyone experiences from time to time. Experiencing a loss, stress, or a big life change can provoke feelings of sadness - this is normal. When sadness becomes persistent for more than two weeks and interfere with functions in your daily roles and responsibilities, it is time to seek help.

Common Symptoms

  • Feelings of emptiness or thoughts of worthlessness
  • Pleasure reduction/loss of interest
  • Feeling helplessness or hopelessness
  • Changes in appetite or weight
  • Increased irritability or anger
  •  Cognitive changes
  • Difficulty focusing or thinking clearly
  • Sleep changes
  • Changes in energy/ fatigue
  • Somatic or physiological symptoms (unaccompanied by a medical condition)
